FourWinds Academy Shamanic Training
Spiritual development is as important now in our technological world as it was when we were preliterate hunter-gatherers. Through shamanic training you can reclaim your birthright as a spiritual being. The Spirits lovingly await the sacred moment when you connect with their realm. In this shamanic training you can learn how to:
- Tap into the collective unconscious
- Contact your ancestors
- Engage with the wisdom and healing energy of the spirits
FourWinds Academy’s shamanic training teaches you:
To access the Spirit Realm through shamanic journeying
To induce the altered state of consciousness called a shamanic trance
To navigate the Spirit Realm, consisting of the lower world, upper world and middle world
So that you can:
Act as an intermediary between ordinary reality and the spirit realm
Reliably and intensely communicate with the spirits
Generate a basic structure and map for journeying to the spirits
Appreciate and comprehend the meaning and role of “what it is to be a shaman”
By developing your relationship with the Spirit Realm, you can help your self, you can help others and you can help your community. In shamanic training you learn how to use your relationship with the spirits to access the following:
- Dispel spiritual ignorance
- Spiritual education
Three Levels of Shamanic Training
Traditionally a shamanic training consisted of a long apprenticeship to an experienced shaman. Whilst the techniques for journeying can be learned reasonably quickly, time and experience continue to be important ingredients in achieving the depth and level of detail necessary to becoming skillful. Consequently, FourWinds Academy offers 3 sessions for the basic shamanic training, giving you the opportunity to progress through a series of essential “core” journeys which take you systematically from a “basic” to “educated” skill level.
Level 1 The Healing Drum: Learn how to journey, create a basic structure and map, meet your spirit helpers, retrieve your power animal, appreciate the significance of the shaman and animate your drum through sacred ceremony.
Level 2 Healing Techniques: Continue developing your relationship with the spirits, experience more core journeys, expand your map of the spirit realm, learn how to do extractions, access guidance, insight and healing.
Level 3 Advanced Techniques: Having learned the basics and had time to practice a shamanic lifestyle, level 3 offers the opportunity to integrate your knowledge and flesh out your relationship with the Spirit Realm. In level 3 you complete the series of core journeys necessary to your training and learn how to access more detail in your journeying. In the same way as your relationship with a long-standing friend is different from your relationship with someone you have just met, and the kind of requests you make of a long-standing friend are different from the requests you make of an acquaintance of short duration, so it is with the spirits.
The most frequently asked question: What if I’ve done another shamanic training?
Can I go into Level 2, or do I still need to do Level 1? It is important to speak to the instructor, Neil Schapera, to find out whether equivalent Level 1 core journeys have been done, and whether you have animated your drum. It might be possible that a preparatory session with the instructor will allow you to make up missed syllabus.
Is this training going to offer me something new? Once again, by speaking to the instructor, and telling him what you have learned in the other training, you will both be able to ascertain whether this training offers you new experiences and skills.
Since the training’s intention is to develop an ever-deepening relationship with the spirits, asking this question is somewhat like asking whether spending more time with a friend you’ve already met is going to be worthwhile.
